Welcome to IST/37

This site has been created to explain the work of the British Standard Institution (BSI) committee, IST/37.

One of the largest ICT standards committees in the UK, IST/37 prepares national contrbutions into the international standards committee, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29 - two of whose working groups have achieved worldwide recognition for their work as MPEG and JPEG.

These committees have been responsible for nearly all the key technical decisions in creating technology that is used:

  • to display photographic images on the Internet
  • in digital cameras
  • on video CDs and DVDs
  • in digital terrestial and satellite television
  • in MP3 and other portable music players
  • in fact, almost everywhere where multimedia information is transmitted or used......
